This Thanksgiving looks different this year, because we said yes to God. I am often asked by friends and family if we know what we are doing. In the beginning I was offended by this question because of course we knew what we were doing, didn’t we?
When this question is asked now, most of the time I laugh because honestly no degree or experience with children could have prepared us for this adventure. So my answer now is, “No, we do not know what we are doing. What we do know, is that we are being obedient to God and everything else will work out. What we do know is we love this little girl more than we ever thought possible.”
There is so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I am thankful for a faithful God that has taught me I do not have to know what the future looks like, I just have to be willing to listen and follow. I am thankful for the season of hard that followed after I was obedient and quit a job I loved. It truly was one of the hardest seasons I have gone through, but through it all I learned a lot about myself and leaned in closer to God than I have in a long time.
I am beyond thankful for my family, the new friends I have made on this journey, the old friends that support and encourage me.
I am extremely thankful that our children jumped on board with this journey. They love and invest in her and she adores them.
We started a new tradition this year, our Thankful Pumpkin. Sis gets to write on the pumpkin a few words daily of what she is thankful for. I love watching her think through this and what she is thankful for. She asked if we had an eraser to do this over next year. When I told her we would buy a new one each year for her to do this with she was so excited.
Traditions old and new, look so different this year.
Thankful for the blessing we didn’t know we needed.
